CW HAS EYES ON BATTLE ROYALE TV SERIES

Here's a little education for those of you who might not know. Before there was a Hunger Games there was Battle Royale. BR was one of the sickest movies to ever come out of Japan. So sick that it was banned from America until recently when The Hunger Games became successful and both films were finally released on DVD/Blu Ray. The film was about a group of Japanese students who were so bad that they were sent to an island and forced to fight to the death on TV. The last one standing got to live another day. The first film is considered a cult classic but the sequel was a terrible horrible mess. A Hollywood remake was in the works but thankfully it never happened because the powers that be had a problem with hiring actual children to pretend to kill each other on the big screen. It's much more easier to hire a bunch of 30-year-olds who look like they're still in high school. Now there are reports that The CW is interested in turning Battle Royale into a TV series.

According to The L.A. Times the CW's talks are preliminary and there is no deal in place. Apparently, Koushun Takami, who wrote the novel is the one who gets a final say on whether or not he will allow the network to rivive it as a TV show. My only issue is how do you make a show like this work on a channel like The CW when you can't really go full out with the killing and gore, something that would work better on a basic cable channel like AMC, HBO or FX. Also I don't want to watch a show where you're only going to hire white people. I don't want to make this a racist issue, but whenever imports get remade you barely see other ethicities besides white actors. So while some of us may be skeptical that this could either be an awesome reboot (like Nikita) or a disaster, alot of ideas get kicked around Hollywood but a few actually make it to the production stage.
