While I usually despise all the second-rate R&B that Kelly Rowland's camp forces her to release, I must say for the last four summers she has always made my summer. When Love Takes Over, What A Feeling with Alex Guardino and let's not forget the fierce dance anthem Commander have made many a queen or dance fan get up and testify as if they were taking in their usual Sunday sermon.
Now Miss Kelly has released a new music video for her summer track Summertime Dreaming, which was sponsored by sponsored by Bacardi rum. With fledgling major record labels crunching every dollar in order to keep the top 5 mainstream pop stars under their contrlled thumb, it seems the big trend right now (Ne-Yo, Swedish House Mafia, etc.) is to have alcoholic beverages pay for your music video fees).
I have been pretty vocal about how disappointed I was in Kelly's last album Here I Am, and even though I had no idea she was releasing a new song (Summer Dreaming is actually a remake of a Kate Yanai song of the same name that was recorded over 21 years ago. It went platinum in Germany), I really hope Kelly listens and realizes that her real bread and butter is in recording Euro dance tracks, a la the late Donna Summer. That audience and her gay dance music fans are the only ones who will really go out and buy her music. So if you get the opportunity to record a fourth record, make it more danceable.
