So You Think You Can Dance season 2 winner Benji Schwimmer has revealed that he is gay while doing an interview with the Mormon Stories Podcast. In the interview that spans a whopping five and a half hours, he talks about a plethora of topics, including coming to terms with his attaction to someone of the same gender, and quitting the Mormon church last year due to the fact that they do not tolerate homosexuals working with the youth.
Schwimmer, whose cousin Lacey gets a steady paycheck on Dancing With The Stars has also founded his own charity called D.E.M.A.N.D., which helps provide healthcare to dancers with HIV/AIDS, as well as other groups who are in need.
Ususally when you watch a show like So You Think You Can Dance, you can pretty much detect who are the gay boys on the show, even though there are times when I get frustrated when the obvious ones hide deep in the closet and act like they are attracted to their female partners. So I applaud Benji (as well as Mark Kanemura and season 2 runner-up Travis Wall) for living his truth and walking away from a religion that is not welcoming to who he is as a person.
