Most people are familiar with Shia LaBeouf from his rise as a child star on Nickelodeon and the last three Transformers movies. But when he's not making mainstream movies you can often find the actor flexing his performance art muscles (a la James Franco) directing music videos for Marilyn Manson (Born Villain) and Kid Cudi (Maniac), appears in the new Sigur Rós music video Fjögur Píanó naked.
The video, which was directed by Alma Har’el depicts “a man and woman locked in a never-ending cycle of addiction and desire.”
According to bassist Georg Holm, the original concept was that they were going to film the video in Iceland playing the piano lines on super 8. But once they met Shia the concept was changed completely and all we get to see is Shia doing a lyrical dance routine semi and fully naked with his female co-star, and sucking on a lollipop blindfolded. I was actually more shocked not by Shia's Autopeen but more by the fact that this video wasn't removed by the YouTube nazis. Please keep in mind that Sigur Ros are not some shitty mainstream band that beats you over the head with some generic shit in a music video. They're all about creating art, which should be interpreted by the person watching and not explained to those who don't get what they are watching. To me the naked metaphor meant that when you are in a deep relationship with someone, you let your guard down showing the naked depths of your soul and the strong need for that yearning connection. He yearned for her and was addicted to her essence, which explains Shia's downward emotional spiral in the video. Visually I found the video to be quite interesting, even though my attention span kept drfting away at times.
Somewhere in the world, Lady Gaga is pissed that her minions didn't steal this idea first.
