POPULAR HORROR MOVIE FRANCHISE TO BECOME A WEEKLY TV SERIES

As many of you are well aware I am a huge fan of horror films. Some of my favorite movies range from classics such as Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Don't Look Now, When A Stranger Calls and Friday the 13th, to name a few. Well now comes word that a little independent film that revived the horror genre in the 90's called Scream is set to be turned into a TV series.

That's right! Ghostface is set to terrorize fans in the comfort of their living rooms on a weekly basis. According to the website TV Line, former MTV executives Tony DiSanto and Liz Gateley will serve as executive producers on the project, and will air on MTV later this year. All four Scream films have grossed a whopping $500 million worldwide, and even though Scream 4 failed to revive the franchise as Dimension Films had hoped, there's no word if Kevin Williamson, who created the franchise and who also executive produces one of my favorite TV shows The Vampire Diaries will be involved in some capacity. I also seriously doubt Neve Campbell (who is pregnant) or Courtneny Cox (who will be busy with Cougar Town) will be involved, but I say bring David Arquette on. It's not like his dance card is full.

While I am a huge fan of all four Scream films, I am worried that it will turn into a disaster. So far MTV does have a great track record with their original programming, since Teen Wolf and Awkward! are two of my favorite scripted shows. I was also a fan of The Hard Times of RJ Berger, but they went and cancelled that. If done right each season can focus on one specific story and the background of the characters, who will be killed off, of course and if done right it can be as good as another one of my favorite shows American Horror Story. So here's hoping that it makes a successful transition from big screen to small screen like Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Teen Wolf, and doesn't end up like other duds that unsuccessfully tried to transition to the small screen, like Friday The 13th: The Series and A Nightmare on Elm Street.
