MUSIC LEGEND QUINCY JONES DISSES DIDDY AT SPOTIFY EVENT
One of the most influential producers in the game Quency Jones is known for his historical hits in the music industry, having produced The Wiz soundtrack, the music of Ray Charles and Michael Jackson's iconic Thriller album, to name a few. But what's interesting about the legend is he recently went in on America's biggest attention whore Diddy.
On Tuesday while speaking at the Spotify launch event (Spotify is a site that allows people to listen to streamed playlists created by musical artists) Jones said that the Bad Boy CEO and mogul “couldn’t recognize a b flat if it hit him.” But then, Jones pointed out that, “P. Diddy has a doctorate in marketing,” citing his success with his Sean John clothing line and endoursement of Ciroc as where his talents truly lie.
I happen to agree with Quincy. Diddy was never a true musician or producer. He has a great ear for music and if you've ever followed him for the past two decades he's great at being a bonafide hustler and control freak. He was great at creating the images of people such as Total, Faith Evens (turning her into a bootleg version of his first successful project Mary J. Blige), Notorious B.I.G., and more. His rise in the music business consisted of sampling every beat he could snatch from Motown, and regurgitating every trend that already existed (like taking over the reins of MTV's Making The Band with two short-lived groups Danity Kane, and Day 26 - the latter who are still together but at this point no one cares). And also, the only person I can think of that is still on his label is Cassie, but I don't think anyone is checking for her anymore. She's been working on her Electro Love album since he was holding auditions to put Danity Kane together. I say at this point Diddy needs to step away from music and focus on his passion projects like his clothing line, pushing liquor and launching his new music channel in December.
