Mary J Blige, who currently stars in the movie musical Rock of Ages has put the oft-delayed Nina Simone biopic on the backburner for now and is set to play another real life person. While giving an interview at WENN in Birmingham, Mary revealed that she will be playing Malcom X's wife Dr. betty Shabazz in the TV movie Parallel Lives. The film will focus on the relationship between Dr. Shabazz and Coretta Scott King.
Says Blige: “I’m playing Betty and prepping for that now. I’ve been studying her online and watching her interviews.”
No word on who will play Coretta, but here's hoping Mary's acting is much more convincing than the stiffness that was evident during some of her scenes in Rock of Ages.
