JANET JACKSON TO PRODUCE TRANSGENDER DOCUMENTARY

Ever since Janet Jackson signed her deal with Lionsgate to star in and produce a couple of future projects, I began to wonder what kind of films would she be interested in attaching her name to. She is currently developing a scripted film for herself to star in, but in the meantime Janet is about to dip her toe into the documentary world.

After recently wrapping up her "Number Ones" world tour, word on the street is that the pop icon is executive producing the transgender documentary TRUTH, which will start shooting this summer. The film, directed by Robert Jason, examines the lives, issues, and experiences of transgender people and their struggle for equality.

Janet, who we all know has been a strong ally to the LGBT community, will be very hands-on with the production, and will even conduct some of the on-camera interviews. Let's just hope the people she will be interviewing will be able to contain themselves while she interviews them.

“All people are very important to me,” said Janet. “I’ve been fortunate to make friends and learn about very different lives. TRUTH is our small chance to ask that you try and understand someone who lives their life in a way that is a little bit different from yours, even though all of our hearts are the same. We want to stop the hate and find understanding.”

I remember hearing some rumblings last year about Janet being involved in a documentary about the transgender community, so I am happy to hear she is moving forward with this still. If this were anyone else coming at us with a project about the transgender community (like money hungry opportunists such as Madoodoo and Lady Gargoyle) I would have given the hardest side-eye. But I am glad someone as influential as Janet Jackson is getting this story out there.
