HOT 97 DJ'S FUNKMASTER FLEX & PETER ROSENBERG REFUSE TO BACK DOWN FROM NICKI GARBAJ DISS

If Nicki Garbaj is expecting Hot 97 DJ/ radio personality Peter Rosenberg to apologize for calling her out on her shitty music, don't hold your breath.

Apparently the sensitive "rapstress" (and I use the latter word loosely) pulled out of Hot 97's Summer Jam over the weekend after Rosenberg dissed her horrible ass single "Starships." But then Funkmaster Flex jumped in on the drama when he dissed the poor man's Lil Kim during his DJ set.

Here is what Rosenberg said hours before Garbaj was supposed to appear on stage in her clown get up:

“I know there are some chicks in here waiting to sing along with ‘Starships’ later. I’m not talking to y’all now. Fuck that bullshit. I’m here to talk about real hip hop shit.”

And after Nicki decided to keep her trash where?...back there, her Young money boss Baby Whoopi, also known to millions as Lil Wayne twatted the following: “Young Money ain’t doing summer jam.”

Then this morning, Rosenberg talked about the fracas again, and refused to back down from his views:

“Hey, I went out there, I was hosting, I was in the zone of doing real hip hop,” said Rosenberg. “I just said what came to mind and everyone made a big deal about it… Now the Barbz are all hitting me and asking me to apologize. There’s a get-me-to-apologize movement, to which I can say… I’m absolutely not apologizing because I didn’t do anything wrong.”

Rosenberg continued: “I said the same thing I’ve been saying — let’s keep it real, Nicki — I have been saying this for six months. I’m not gonna change my stance ’cause I’m at Summer Jam… I have extended the olive branch to Nicki Minaj. I have tweeted her many times. I’ve met with management. I’ve done everything I can to try to make it cool so that we could have a conversation about music. It didn’t work out.”

And to top it off, hip hop cray cray Lauryn Hill, who I believe is a poster child for post-partum depression felt the need to throw in her two cents over the Nicki incident by writing an open letter showing her support for Nicki's decision. Apparently people thought that Lauryn was asked to replace Nicki after she bowed out at the last minute.

Says Lauryn:

No disrespect to Nicki, but I need to clear up an inaccuracy. I was not scheduled to be a special guest on her set at Summer Jam, I was invited by Nas to perform with him. I don’t have details on exactly what transpired between the station and the artists, but I do support artists standing by their beliefs, and walking with integrity. We have to find a better way to commercially exploit music, while giving artists their proper respect. This cannot be done while taking their contributions for granted, or trying to control the scope of their growth and power through threats and fear tactics. We can do better than this, there is a better way, or else ‘we’ (the proverbial we) find ourselves in danger of being hypocrites!!!

After all this drama, I have to say Peter Rosenberg has gotten me interested in listening to Hot 97 again, especially since I haven't listened to the radio since Wendy Williams left WBLS. For far too long we have allowed these clowns to desecrate what is left of real hip hop, letting pop stars come through and sell it to the highest bidders, and I think it's best especially for the east coast where hip hop was founded that we don't have clowns like Nicki and Drake and whoever else is bending over for the big dicks running Young Money to piss all over what true hip hop really is. Don't get me wrong there's nothing wrong with hip hop making money and selling out arenas. But when it's been commercialized beyond recognition is when I have a problem. So I say take your pop antics and your bafoonery over to Z100 or Ryan Seacrest where you'd have a better fit, and leave the true hip hop to the professionals.

I do find it quite odd that Funk Flex would jump on the Nicki bashwagon, especially when it wasn't too long ago that he was on the radio dissing DJ Clue over the fact that he got to exclusively break a new Nicki Garbaj track first. So I'm wondering where is this hostility coming from all of a sudden? I also feel that the Nicki fans need to stop being so goddamn sensitive. It ain't like the bitch is broke. After all, with all that money Papsi is paying her, refusing to do Summer Jam is not going to hurt her pocket. It may hurt record sales, but as far as her wallet goes, it's perfectly fine. If you cannot develop a thick skin in this business, then I think it's time she and any other artist who gets upset because they don't have every jock kissing their ass over their crappy music need to find another line of work.
