While it's no secret on my end that there are a plethora of gay rappers who A) remain in the closet to have a career of 50 Cent like promortions or B) come out of the gate as a homo rapper but remain untouched by the mainstream rap industry, a cute and intelligent rapper from Texas named Adair Lion has released his video onto the blogosphere called Gay is Okay, which samples Michael Jackson's Ben.
What made me show Adair some love is that he was someone who followed the pack when it came to condemning homosexuality and is a devout Christian, but when his friend came out to him it changed his outlook on what the religious right and the media
Kudos to you Adair for bravely express yourself and condemning homophobia and I hope this song will open many other eyes like it did Adair's. I also hope that hip hop soon opens it's eyes and abolishes this bullshit illusion that gays don't exist in the hip hop universe.
Gay Is Okay will be featured on his forthcoming album, “Michael & Me,” his tribute to the late Michael Jackson.“Michael & Me” will be released on June 25, 2012.
