SPICE GIRL MELANIE C SET TO RELEASE DANCE EP THE NIGHT
Back in 1999, former Spice Girl Melanie C (aka Sporty Spice) had one of the biggest hits of her solo career when the Hex Hector remix of her single I Turn To You became a global smash. Since then she's released four more albums that were more on the pop/rock side, but now comes word that eight months after dropping her fifth album The Sea, Mel will release an Ibiza-inspired EP called The Night on May 13 via iTunes.
The EP will feature three songs that she collaborated on with London-based DJ Jodie Harsh, and will come with a digital booklet including song lyrics and some beautiful artwork, shot by fashion photographer Tim Bret-Day.
While I've always thought Mel C had the best voice in the group, I actually thought she would have continued to go in a dance direction with her music, since her debut album Northern Star was more on the plush, electronic side (with production by William Orbit).
Check out the track listing below via Mel C's website:
Set You Free: The lead track introduces the EP with light dub-step moments and thrusts into full-on hands in the air synths and a tight kick drum. Through big anthemic vocals Melanie sings about the freedom you feel in that perfect dance floor moment – blinded by lights, drowning in the music, feeling the love from your friends.
Sunrise: It's immediately apparent this song is inspired by nights out in Ibiza. The track boasts a big-room sound with a killer beat and chopped up vocals. Girl meets boy, dances the night away, boy looks just as great in the sunlight the following day. A holiday romance and a real peak-time dance floor moment.
Walk Away: Taking things a little slower, the final song narrates the organic end to a relationship and the weight it brings off your shoulders...a sigh of relief and a 'change of atmosphere'. Mid-tempo and orchestral, it's a dramatic ending to the EP with it's big hip hop drum and a epic build. {SOURCE}
If the EP does well financially, I hope Mel will take this idea and incorporate more dance influences on her sixth album.
