QUEEN LATIFAH FINALLY COMES OUT OF THE CLOSET

After years of obvious speculation (and the fact that we saw the pics of her all booed up with ex-girlfriend personal trainer Jeanette Jenkins on a yacht with Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz last year), actress/rapper/singer and producer Queen Latifah has finally said what we've all known for years - that she is in fact a lesbian.

Latifah, whose real name is Dana Owens made the announcement quietly when she revealed she would be headlining this year’s annual Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride Festival on Saturday, May 19.

From VIBE

Long Beach Co-President Pat Crosby stated, “From hip hop to R&B, pop to standards, Queen Latifah is the voice of our generation, and her concert here will be phenomenal, for her to make her worldwide Pride debut here in Long Beach is a tremendous testament to the popularity of our celebration and to the strength of our community.”

I'm glad that at age 42, she can finally be at piece with her sexuality and it not be a big deal in the media with their constant asking her about who she is sleeping with. I had hoped that she would come out before the debut of her talk show (which premieres in 2013), because no one is willing to invest their time into a show when you can't be 1000% yourself on camera (unlike Anderson Cooper, who happens to come off on camera as very stiff).

If Hollywood isn't interested in banking on Latifah playing straight on the big screen now that she is publicly out (I don't see why since she's played opposite many men for years, then at least she has her other projects to fall back on, like her sitcom Let's Stay Together on BET and Single Ladies on VH1.
