OFFICIAL TRAILER TRASH: THE BOURNE LEGACY

Jeremy Renner takes over the Bourne franchise from Matt Damon in the upcoming action film The Bourne Legacy. Before people get their tits all in a twist, Renner is not playing Jason Bourne. Writer/director Tony Gilroy expands the Bourne universe created by Robert Ludlum with an original story that introduces us to a new hero (Jeremy Renner) whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films. For The Bourne Legacy, Renner joins fellow series newcomers Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach and Oscar Isaac, while franchise veterans Albert Finney, Joan Allen, David Strathairn and Scott Glenn reprise their roles.

Renner plays Aaron Cross, an agent of Treadstone who goes rogue after the government decides he and others like him need to be wiped out. Rachel Weisz (wife of James Bond himself Daniel Craig) plays a scientist who helped build the Bourne program, finds herself in the middle of this fight, and Ed Norton's the federal spook hot on their trail.

Renner playing a different character keeps the franchise going and it also leaves it open for Matt Damon to return should they come up with a script that draws him back into the franchise. For those not in the know, the reason Matt is not in the new film is because he and director Paul Greengrass (who directed Supremacy & Ultimatum) didn't feel they had a script ready to go and opted out. At least the film still has all the things that I love about the Bourne films (and that has also been duplicated by a few other spy movies). A conflicted killer hero, a global reach, some very grungy hotel rooms and a whole bunch of incredible stunts and chases.

If people are doubting that my husband can pull off being an action star, then I suggest you check out two little films that he made last year that made a shitload of money within the last five months - Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and The Avengers.
The Bourne Legacy opens in theaters on August 3.
