JENNIFER LOPEZ IS LEAVING AMERICAN IDOL

I've been hearing rumors about this for days, but I feel it is time to bring some of you who still watch American Idol some sad news. Word on the street is that after next week's finale of American Idol, it may be the last time you see Jennifer Lopez as a judge.

According to E! Online, J Lo is so busy with five thousand other projects (like recording a new album, shooting a few movies, keeping a close eye on Casper and lending her name to a hundred endoursement deals) that she doesn't have the time to pretend she gives a shit about a bunch of kids who's queefs sound better than her half octave vocal range should she return for a third season.

Yesterday Jennifer was on Ellen and was asked if she would come back for another season, but the singer/actress said that she hasn't made up her mind as of yet. She also said that “I miss doing other things. It really does lock you down.”

I remember last season when it came down the wire she said she wasn't sure if she was coming back, but eventually returned. Since we all know nothing motivates J Lo more than an executive dangling a check with lots of zeroes on a fishing hook in front of her, this may be a ploy to get more money since Britney Spears is now getting paid $15 million to play a singing judge on TV, and the lip-synching queen hasn't even opened her mouth yet (J Lo is alleged to have been paid $20 million to take up valuable space this season). My only question is since she has used the show to catapult her two heavily auto-tuned singles (On The Floor and Dance Again) to the top of the charts, how will she promote any of her future music? Because let's be real - two years ago J Lo was one step away from performing a musical set at Kohls.

As of now FOX has no comment.

Personally I feel (and I have said this many of times as I have talked about Jennifer Lopez) that for the past two seasons she has brought nothing to the show. All she does is come out on stage to show off her glamorous new outfit, and doesn't give the singers any constructive criticism to help them become better performers. She's more concerned with looking good on camera and not getting booed by the audience if she says something that they don't like. I also think there's too many singing shows on TV as it is and now that music is going in a more DIY direction (with more intellectually complex songwriting and emotional singing), it may be time for some of these mainstram singing factory shows to sashay away.
