MASS EFFECT 3 CREATORS NOT GIVING IN TO ANTI-GAY PROTESTS

It's been a month since video game maker Electronic Arts caused a huge backlash after including gay characters in their most recent Star Wars game and Mass Effect 3. Anti-gay activist Tony Perkins from the Family Research Council, who I'm sure has never played any of the current games he's bitching about says that "the biggest threat to the empire may be homosexual activists."

EA has received thousands of hate letters decrying their decision, but the company's Vice President of communications Jeff Brown, however, is not only refusing to back down, but have gone on the record to say they weren't pressured by gay activists to include same-sex characters in their games.
"Every one of EA's games includes ESRB content descriptors so it's hard to believe anyone is surprised by the content. This isn't about protecting children, it's about political harassment," he told Games Industry International. "EA has not been pressured by any groups to include LGBT characters in our games. However, we have met with LBGT groups and sponsored industry forums to discuss content and harassment of players in online forums. In short, we do put options for same-sex relationships in our games; we don't tolerate hate speech on our forums." He also says most of the letters are coming from the Florida Family Association.

If One Million Moms couldn't get JC Penney to fire Ellen Degeneres because they didn't want a successful lesbian to represent what they consider a family store, then what makes these other idiot groups who are using Star Wars and Mass Effect as a ploy to bring attention to their bigoted organizations think they can get EA to budge? The anti-gay groups tried to start their shit with Starbucks after the coffee chain announced their support for marriage equality (25,000 people signed a "Dump Starbucks" campaign, while over 600,000 people signed a "Thank Starbucks" counter-campaign).

Why is it so hard for the right to understand the freedom of choice? If you do not like a TV program, a video game or a musician due to their race, sexual orientation or political beliefs, it is your prerogative to not purchase their products. The minute you try to tell people how to create a product you are not backing with your dollars is when we have a problem. Spread your hate all you want, but if you notice the following pattern, it's becoming a losing battle.
