LIONEL RICHIE OWES THE IRS $1.1 MILLION IN BACK TAXES

While Lionel Richie has been riding high off the success of his first country album Tuskegee and was celebrated last night on CBS by Country music's finest, it seems all is not well in the Richie household. The legendary 62-year-old singer, who got his break in the group The Commodores and went on to have many solo hits, such as Dancing On The Ceiling and Say You, Say Me apparently owes the IRS $1.1 million in unpaid income taxes for the year 2010.

According to E! News, documents were obtained supporting the claim, and goes on to note Richie has been hit with a lien, meaning the federal government has the right to seize his assets if he doesn’t pay his owed taxes in a timely manner. Now it makes perfect sense why we've been seeing Lionel everywhere as of late, on such shows as The Voice (as a mentor for Team Xtina) and at SXSW (South By Southwest). Ritchie will also be making an appearance on a new series called Duets later this year.
