PRESIDENT JIMMY CARTER SHOWS SUPPORT FOR MARRIAGE EQUALITY

While President Obama has yet to fully say whether or not he endourses or opposes marriage equality (justl ike he has yet to sit and actually have a conversation with black people who disagree with some of his policies, like Dr. Cornel West and Tavis Smiley), former President Jimmy Carter has come out in support of gays and lesbians tying the knot.

"Homosexuality was well known in the ancient world, well before Christ was born and Jesus never said a word about homosexuality. In all of his teachings about multiple things -– he never said that gay people should be condemned. I personally think it is very fine for gay people to be married in civil ceremonies. I draw the line, maybe arbitrarily, in requiring by law that churches must marry people. I’m a Baptist, and I believe that each congregation is autonomous and can govern its own affairs. So if a local Baptist church wants to accept gay members on an equal basis, which my church does by the way, then that is fine. If a church decides not to, then government laws shouldn’t require them to."

I actually agree with Jimmy on this one. Homosexuality was common before Christianity reared it's ugly head with all their rules and judgemental stares, and if churches don't want to marry people due to their sexuality, then that's their prerogative. personally I could care less if a bunch of straight people don't like me. But you will respect me as a human being when I walk in the room. As long as there are facilities where gays can get married and we have ministers who are willing to perform the marriage ceremony, then that's all that matters. The approval of someone who doesn't understand that homosexuality is as natural as the trees blowing in the wind doesn't matter to me.
