In the early conceptual stages of the movie based on the life of oprnly gay rugby star Gareth Thomas, actor Mickey Rourke was very much gung-ho to play him on the big screen. Well now comes word that actor Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises) is in talks to play him instead.
Rourke feels that he is too old to play Thomas and would like Hardy to take the bull by the horns and play the character.
Here's what Gareth told The Sun: "I was talking to Mickey yesterday and basically we're now talking to other big-name actors who could play the part instead.
"We had talked about using computer-generated special effects with Mickey but we don't think that will be as realistic, so it's time to find someone new."
He revealed Batman star Tom Hardy is now in talks for the part that will feature Gareth's personal struggle when he came out as gay in 2009.
Computer generated effects might also come very expensive, since I believe it cost hundreds of thousands of dollars just to make Jessica Lange look young in a flashback scene of American Horror Story. Tom is a method actor and also British so I think he'd be perfect for the role. That is if people don't throw in his face the bisexual comments he made a few years back (which he later retracted). I was a bit worried when Mickey said he wanted to play Gareth (because of how old he is and the fact that he will have to play real Rugby in some of the movie's scenes), but I'm glad he came to his senses and is looking at someone younger to pull it off.
