AVALON'S ALBUM REVIEW: SIRPAUL - THE HORSE
I finally got around to listening to SIRPAUL's new album The Horse before it's April release, and I have to say say it's the best, most cohesive electro pop album I've heard in a long time from an independent artist. We immediately step inside Sirpaul's world the minute we hear the sound of horses running into the background before the haunting, 80's synth pop intro Ride takes us listeners on one. We then take another ride on Sirpaul's disco stick as he seduces our ears with Human Machine, one of my favorite tracks off the album. I started imagining choreography the minute I listened to it and the chorus is something you definitely can't get out of your head. Mr. Cucinello does let you take a breather from working up a sweat on the dance floor during his new electro-Cabaret single Body Connection (the album features two versions. One with rapper Loco Ninja and one with Sirpaul only) but then pulls you right back on the floor with King of the World.
Don't think you'll only hear Sirpaul doing a bunch of uptempo dance cuts. He does slow it down a bit on a few songs, such as Nude, In Your Eyes and the very filthy mid-tempo Strict. The album oozes sex appeal, dirty/filthy beats and sexual innuendos for days, and I couldn't ask for anything more. I particularly loved the nods to old school disco, 80's synth pop, and contemporary electro pop that could rival any artist currently on the mainstream Billboard charts, since this is the sound I grew up listening to as a child growing up in the 80's. I could definitely feel the spirits of Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode and Erotica-era Madonna all over this album. I have been yearning for a male pop singer to bring to the masses what so many of our gay icons have been taking advantage of years - the celebration of your sexual freedom, and based on the 15 tracks on The Horse, it seems SIRPAUL is definitely up to the task of joining fellow male singing revolutionaries Sam Sparro, Adam Lambert, and George Michael. So while every queen is sucking on the tits of Madonna trying to get a sample of her MDNA, show someone in our community some love and get yourself a copy of The Horse when it comes out on April 3. Order it here on iTunes
My favorite tracks: Human Machine, Body Connection, King of the World, Like A Horse, Strict, Hardcore Crazy.
