WAITING TO EXHALE SEQUEL TO CARRY ON WITHOUT WHITNEY HOUSTON

While much of the music world is still reeling over the heartbreaking death of vocal powerhouse Whitney Houston, Hollywood is taking the legendary phrase "The Show Must Go On" literally. We were all aware of Whitney's return to film in the upcoming movie Sparkle, but one of the reasons why she was sent to rehab was to clean herself up to do the sequel to Waiting To Exhale. Now that the singer is deceased, there are no plans to shelve the film.

“I don’t think she would want it to,” Elizabeth Gabler, president of Fox 2000 Pictures, said in an interview with Vulture. “It’s almost in her honor that we think to soldier on.”

Fox bought the rights to Getting To Happy back in 2010, and with all the girls set to return, Forest Whitaker is back to direct the sequel as well.

“We literally have not talked about anybody for that part,” said Gabler. “Forest, I know, is just … grieving. He’d been the one who was speaking with her, updating [Houston] on its progress.”

So I say instead of recasting the role of Savannah Jackson, why not have her character killed off in the movie and have the ladies' stories from the book in-tact, but have them celebrate Savannah. Unless that will kill the flow of the book. I'm just thinking of other possibilities so that fans don't get pissed that they recast the role. If they decide to recast Savannah's role to serve the story, I say pick Viola Davis, Vanessa Williams or Robin Givens.

Check out a mashup of Whitney's classic How Will I Know and Robyn's Dancing On My Own
