LISTEN: MADONNA SCOLDS M.I.A. FOR MIDDLE FINGER SUPER BOWL STUNT
After M.I.A. came under fire by the FCC when she gave the Super Bowl watchers the middle finger salute, five days later Madonna, who has made an entire career by using controversy to sell records is scolding the Sri Lankan rapper for trying to upstage her in front of millions on Sunday.
Madonna called into Ryan Seacrest's morning show to talk about all of her upcoming projects, and the singer says she had no idea what happened until she was in the elevator leaving the staduim.
“I was really surprised…. I wasn’t happy about it,” she told Seacrest.
She explained, “I understand it’s kind of punk rock and everything, [but] to me there was such a feeling of love and good energy and positivity, it seemed negative.”
Madonna continued, “It’s such a teenager… irrelevant thing to do in one respect, but on the other hand, there was such a feeling of love and unity there, what was the point? It was just out of place.”
For the record, M.I.A. has apologized for pulling a stunt over America's biggest stunt queen: “She has. I know she feels bad,” she told Carson Daly. “I accept her apology, but you know, I think she still has her head in the sand right now.”
It's different if it's your own show, but when you are being watched by people who look for any reason to bitch, you have to watch what you do. It also goes to show that even though Madonna can elevate many underground artists to mainstream success just by collaborative association, not everyone is looking to sell their sould to the highest bidder. I also would wish now that Madonna has addressed it that we can move on and stop making non-issues an issue.
Check out the interview below, where Madonna also talks about W.E. and if Britney Spears will be lending her vocals to Girls Gone Wild, as was previously rumored.
