IT'S TIME FOR AN INTERVENTION: RIHANNA & CHRIS BROWN EDITION
Ever since news broke that Chris Brown would be featured on the full-length version of her Talk That Talk interlude Birthday Cake, everyone in the blogosphere took to their Facebook, Twitter, and blogs to express their opinions on it. I have been very vocal on both sides, and my stance on Chris Brown is that I would be for moving on and forgiving him if he didn't come off as an arrogant tool in interviews and on his Twitter. The final nail in the coffin for me was after he realized that there are people who still are angry with him getting so much love and press by the media after what he did to ex-girlfriend Rihanna three Grammy awards ago, he took to his Twitter to rant about people hating on him and then bragged that " I got a Grammy now." Then 15 minutes later after deleting his tweet, he had the nerve to blame someone in his entourage for the insensitive tweets. Take responsibility for your actions (which I believe deep down he hasn't) and if you're going to brag about winning an award, try winning six in one night for every category that you were nominated in and then we'll talk.
As for Rihanna she needs to realize that she is a role model to many young girls who follow everything she does. There are lots of girls in high school who are currently in relationships that are self-destructive. I'm not saying that Rihanna has to be a poster child for every single person in the world (since it is the parents who should be teaching, guiding and keeping their own children on the right path), but Rihanna has changed her looks and musical style in six short years than Madonna has in three decades, so when it's public knowledge that you got your ass beat by your ex-boyfriend, and then you give him a slap on the wrist by inviting him to sing on your new single (as a publicity stunt to sell records), what kind of message does that send to young kids? Whether or not you and Breezy want to accept it, you are role models for the younger generation. Acting like a poor man's Ike and Tina in my opinion is not the move, and I'm all for forgiveness, but to invite your ex to make music with you is as I said before a bad idea.
My point for talking about this is I read the open letters written by Billboard to Chris and Rihanna and they were spot on. The letters said what most (specifically in the music industry) are thinking, but don't want to say it because it's easy to jump on the bandwagon than to keep it real. The open letters to both Rihanna and Chris are pretty long, so if you would like to read both, click here for RiRi's and click here for Breezy's.
