The Ultimate Fighter president Dana White was asked recently if he would have a problem if someone who was openly gay were a part of his organization, to which he replied: "I'll tell you right now, if there's a gay fighter in the UFC, I wish he would come out," he said. "I could care less if there's a gay fighter in the UFC. There probably is, and there's probably more than one. It's 2012. Give me a break."
Well now it looks like his wish is about to become a reality. On the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter 15, one of the 32 fighters getting the opportunty to sign a contract with the billion-dollar industry is none other than Dakota Cochrane. His government name may not be familiar to some of us as of yet, but some within the gay community may know him better by his gay porn name Danny. Although Dakota says he has a girlfriend, he has performed in 17 films for web company Sean Cody. It should also be known that the 25-year-old is 10-2 in MMA and posted a win over former WEC lightweight champ Jamie Varner in September.
This reminds me of a similar story about Dustin from The Real World, who spent more time apologizing and making excuses for his past as a internet gay-for-pay pornformer rather than embracing his past so that way people who do have a problem with how he made his money wouldn't have shit to say. I'm just glad to see that there are a lot more former gay porn stars who are transitioning into mainstream TV (former porn star Tag Eriksson is on the Bravo reality show Million Dollar Listing : New York which premieres next month).
I've always looked at some of the dudes on TUF as suspect in some of the things they would do on past seasons during their downtime, and if Dakota comes in with a "fuck you" attitude and shows he is as good in the octagon as he is with taking dick up the ass, that's all that matters in the end. It's about time we showed society that not all men who have sex with men are a cross between Ross matthews and Carson Cressly with a dash of Bobby Trendy. Some of us will kick your ass too!
Sidebar: I also loved the fact that when I was doing research on this story that most of the comments were positive. Straight guys don't care about him being gay. They just don't want to see the pics of him in action.
