DANIEL RADCLIFFE COVERS ATTITUDE MAGAZINE; TALKS ABOUT BULLIED GAY YOUTH

Actor Daniel Radcliffe, who is shaping up to be one of my favorite young actors of the 21st century, covers next months issue of UK gay magazine Attitude, and inside, the actor, activist, and LGBT ally asks for the three main leaders of UK political parties to meet with the parents of bullied gay youth. The 22-year-old, who has also been working closely with The Trevor Project for the past few years says that it's harder for kids to escape bullying, due to social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, but also says that kids should not define who they are based on their sexuality:

"Don't define yourself as straight or gay, define yourself as people and help another person if they're in trouble." On equality in marriage, he says: "The ultimate reason gay marriage should be legalised everywhere is because, as a kid, you look up to your mum and dad and they're married; then you look at the gay couple who've been together for the same amount of time, but because they can't get married their relationship doesn't seem the same. Yes, gay marriage is about symbolically blessing a relationship, but the larger issue is about transmitting a fundamental message about equality."

On his issue with religious extremists who have a large influence over public schools and our political parties:

"I'm not religious, I'm an atheist, and a militant atheist when religion starts impacting on legislation. We need sex education in schools. Schools have to talk to kids from a young age about relationships, gay and straight."

On his disgust for our GOP candidates:

"...they disgusted me less than candidates like Rick Perry, who made that ridiculous advert wearing 'the Brokeback jacket', and I think pretend to be homophobic just to win votes."

On whether or not he is gay and his man crush on Ryan Gosling:

"No. I can quite happily say someone is handsome, good-looking, and I can see why someone would want to f**k them, but I've never felt that way about a man myself. There is that moment in your late teens when you ask yourself the question, 'Am I?' but I wasn't...Well, this year I have a talent crush on Ryan Gosling. I think he's fantastic and...(ahem) you know he'd be nice afterwards. He seems smart. If I was gay, I would go for a smart man."

Who diesn't have a man crush on Ryan Gosling? This is why I love Daniel. he's so forthcoming and honest about who he is and he could give a rat's ass on what others think of him. It's very rare that we get such a level-headed young man who stands up for what he believes, unlike others who will play the Hollywood game and not donate their time and money to a cause because they're afraid of how they will look to a certain group of people. To me Daniel reminds me of myself when I was his age - an old soul in the body of a chapping young man.
