So yesterday I was on Facebook checking my messages, and I happened to come across a post by the creators of The DL Chronicles. Apparently there was an audition the creators put out where an unnamed actor sent them a message saying that they have nothing against gay people, but those aren't the type of roles that said actor does. So of course this sparked a pretty interesting conversation where a list of straight actors from Michael K Williams to Anthony Mackie all played gay roles and still have careers.
Then a friend of mine posted something about a show called The LA Complex, which is a new mini-series from Canada. Usually I'm on point when it comes to shows in regards to the LGBT community, so I did a little research. Not only has the CW just picked up the series to air in the U.S., but on TLAC, which is a series about a group of people who live in a Los Angeles complex who are struggling to make it in the entertainment industry features two black men, a producer and a rapper who are gay but not out.
Canada seems to always be ahead of the curve when it comes to LGBT programming (hell, they already have a gay version of America's Next Top Model), and since The CW has picked it up, I've got my fingers crossed that it will turn into a full season series that will give us more in regards to LGBT characters than 90210 and Melrose Place ever did.
P.S. Hearing this bit of news gives me hope that the U.S. will catch up with the world in regards to LGBT entertainment.
