RUPAUL DOESN'T THINK USING THE WORD TRANNY IS POLITICALLY INCORRECT
Rupaul better get ready, because it's only a matter of time before the LGBT PC Nazis come out of their glory holes with their glittered pitchforks and high burning flames. In a recent interview with Michaelangelo Signorile, the drag icon and host of Rupaul's Drag Race (which returns for a 4th season on January 30) revealed that he is done with being politically correct and that he doesn't think using "tranny" is offensive.
Rupaul on On Lance Bass's apology for using the word "tranny":
"It's ridiculous! It's ridiculous!... I love the word "tranny"...And I hate the fact that he's apologized. I wish he would have said, 'F-you, you tranny jerk!'"
On LGBT acvitists who protested against ABC's Work It (which was recently canceled), saying the series mocked transgender women:
"Don't take life so seriously... We live in a culture where everyone is offended by everything."
While stumping for the new season of her show, RuPaul's Drag Race, which she says is "influenced by the Gaga-esqe movement of today." And she's not just saying that. Signorile posted a slideshow of this season's contestants, and every single one of them looks like a permutation of Gaga.
I do agree with Ru that people especially within the LGBT community have become overly sensitive especially when it comes to certain words being used, and until recently I never heard so much backlash against "tranny" being used. There seems to be more shade thrown within the gay community than in the straight (I personally have never witnessed a straight man using the worrd). Ru has always been a free spirit, and he's an old school queen, which is why I love him for his honesty. I feel as we move closer towards equality, we have lost our sense of self and our sense of humor. Anyone who knows me personally knows that I'm the first to say some shit that makes people uncomfortable (or doesn't have the balls to say themselves). Tranny is not a word that only applies to the transgender community. If affects transvestites and drag queens as well, and outside of Divine and Sylvester, Rupaul is the only mainstream drag queen we have in the public eye today trying to bridge the gap between black and white, young and old, gay and straight.
I don't think people should have been offended by Work It because it was two men dressing in women's clothes. I think people should have been offended by it because it wasn't funny. I also think people should be offended by the new season of Drag Race, because I, for one, am offended that drag queens are influenced by Gaga, who has single-handedly ripped off every drag queen I can think of, most noteably the legendary fashion designer/performance artist Leigh Bowery (among others). I personally don't give a fuck about what you call me, because "what you think of me is none of my business" (a famous Ru quote, BTW). As long as you don't put your ignorant ass hands on me then you won't have to worry about being sent to the hospital.
So in honor of Ru's declaration of transdependence, let's all sit back and watch the video to one of my favorite tracks off his album Champion, my cunt anthem Tranny Chaser below...
