THOMAS JANE SAYS HE WAS NOT A REAL-LIFE PEEN PEDDLER
Remember back in October when I reported on a recent article in the Los Angeles Times featuring actor Thomas Jane where he went on to reveal that he once upon a time moonlighted as a male hustler before he made it as an actor? Well now that his HBO series HUNG has just been canceled (along with How To Make It In America and Bored to Death), the actor is retracting his original story.
Back in October the actor was quoted as saying that when he was struggling in Hollywood, he was open to sexual experimentation: "I was 18," he was quoted as saying. "I wasn't averse to going down to Santa Monica Boulevard and letting a guy buy me a sandwich. Know what I mean?" Well now Jane says to The Fix's Anna David that he was misquoted in the article and that to imply that he hustled is incorrect.
"In the interviews that I did, I never said I was a prostitute," Jane tells David. "I was talking about my [early] time in Hollywood: I said that I’d had a sexually adventurous time and I was trying to relate that to how I play a prostitute on TV— trying to relate my experience to my character’s experience — and well, people heard what they wanted to hear."
I don't get why are you waiting two months later to say that you were misqoted? The second this story made the news (and believe me, there were plenty of blogs and entertainment news programs that were talking about this). My guess is that your show wasn't doing well in the ratings, so maybe you and HBO thought by saying you were a real-life hustler (which let's be frank I still believe is true) it would bring in the ratings. Now that the network announced that they were canceling your show after three seasons you want to change your story.
