SWV REUNITE FOR NEW ALBUM; REALITY SHOW IN THE WORKS
There seems to be a lot of comebacks as of late, with the reunitation (yes I make up my own words) of New Edition, New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys touring together as NKOTBSB this past summer, a telemovie in the works about TLC and now after a 13-year hiatus, SWV (aka Sisters With Voices) is set to make a comeback with their new album next year.
The trio has inked a new deal with Mass Appeal Entertainment and E1 (formerly Koch Records) to release their fourth studio album. Along with the new album and tour, SWV are also developing a new reality show (other sophisticated bloggers and Oprah like to call it a docu-series but let's call it what it is...it's a damn reality show) that will highlight their previous success, their breakup, return to music, the rebuilding of their relationships, as well as the groups desire to inspire other women to follow their dreams.
Their debut album, It's About Time sold three-million copies back in 1992, which spawned some of the biggest R&B hits such as I'm So Into You, Downtown, Weak, and the Human Nature remix of Right Here.
The group’s second album, New Beginning sold two million and spawned two number one hits: "You’re the One" and The Neptunes’ produced track "Use Your Heart." In 1997, SWV dropped their third and final album Release Some Tension, which went platinum, logged several top-ten hits such as "Someone" with Diddy, “Can We” from the Booty Call soundtrack featuring Missy Elliott and the sensual single “Rain” with longtime collaborator Brian Morgan.
I'm glad to see that there is a group that I loved listening to growing up as a kid in the 90's is making a comeback and can show that women can put their differences aside and put out some quality R&B music. I just hope the show will be inspirational with a little bit of drama thrown in (for ratings, of course) and won't be a orange-alert mess like when Dru Hill and Jodeci tried to get back together and documented it for reality TV.
