I love when polls state the obvious. For the past three years, Lady Gaga has tried and succeeded at becoming one of the biggest pop forces in the game right now. Even though her Born This Way album was an over-produced collection of shitty songs, in 2011 she racked in a whopping $90 million. Not bad for someone who claims she went bankrupt three times with her Monster's Ball tour. It has also garnered her some criticism for not being original enough with her ideas since she has been compared to just about every famous and underground female and male musician and fashion icon alive and dead. Coming in second on the list of overrated stars was Britney Spears followed by Justin Bieber. I personally haven't seen the entire list conducted by Billboard, but I hope Beyonce, Rihanna, David Guetta, Drake, Rihanna, Lil Wayne,Taylor Swift and Kanye made the list as well.
In the good news department, Madonna was listed as one of the artists who's albums people are looking forward to in 2012. While many have tried and failed to replace the queen of pop, one thing they all have neglected to learn from her is that once you've promoted the last record to the hilt, you need to know when to retreat underground and allow your fans the time to miss you. That way, when you come back, you're feeling recharged and ready to give them something they haven't had in a while. This is why I always say, while someone younger may have the stamina to do what the majors tell them (and believe me - Gaga is one of the last manufactured pop stars the labels have out there to show that the old way of making or breaking a pop star works) never count out the veterans in the game.
