Gene Simmons is not happy that Madonna will be performing during Super Bowl Half Time
"I love all karaoke singers," Simmons snarked to TMZ.com, when asked how he feels about her selection. "I like all the girl singers who get up and sing with tapes. Shame on you... I don't think it's appropriate." He added, "Madonna is terrific... I hate the tapes."
This is not the first time Simmons has said this about Madonna. The first time I heard him try to come for the Material Girl was earlier in the week when Joy Behar invited him back on her HLN show after his wife Shannon Tweed staged a little publicity stunt walk off on Joy's show to get people to tune into their tired reality show. Joy asked him his opinion about Madonna performing and he basically made the same comment on her show that he gave to TMZ.
Also if Gene has ever seen Madonna perform live, she does not lip sync of perform to tapes. To be fiar everyone these days uses a backing track, but if you've ever been to one of her concerts, Madonna always sings and dances live, and has back up singers to help her out as well. I've seen some people have back-up singers on stage and they sound like they're lip-synching to a backing track of the lead singer's studio vocals.
I've also been hearing people criticize the Super Bowl for hiring someone old to perform. We have such a blatant disrespect for older people in this country it's disgusting. The Rolling Stones, Prince, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Bruce Springsteen and The Who have all performed in the past, so if you're trying to go after someone for being old, call it what it is. You're just mad because she's an aging female pop star. He would dare say that to someone like Cher because he knows she would cuss him from LA to Timbuktu. Also, Gene should be the last to talk because last I checked he and his tired band KISS performed at Half Time in 1999 with Chaka Khan and Stevie Wonder. I just don't get after changing the face of pop music for 30 years, people still count her out as a force to be reckoned with? Madonna, please don't dignify this with a response because clearly he's trying to start a feud with a mega pop star to drum up publicity for his reality show. He's a misogynist, washed-up one-hit wonder of a pig who looks better with his clown make up on and at his best when he's not talking.
