COMMON AND DRAKE ARE BEEFING

Just in time for the release of his new album The Dreamer The Believer, it looks like it's a head-to-head battle between the light-skinded rappers. The drama all started when Drake was doing a set at the 106FM’s Cali Christmas concert (the same concert Chris Brown did a strip tease at) and once he was done with his performance Drizzy felt the need to go on a rant which left some to speculate that he may have been referring to Common.

‘I will never stop doing this for ya’ll. I don’t give a f*ck if you have something to say to me. Say it to my muthaf*ckin’ face. Just cause I sing don’t make me no b-tch”

Common, who was also at the event performing with Big Sean released a diss track called Sweet, which has the Chicago MC taking shots at rappers who think they can blow like Usher. Common references Frank Sinatra on the track (sample lyric: Y’all soft motherf–kers, singing all around me man, la la la/ You ain’t motherf–kin’ Frank Sinatra/Uh, lil’ b*tch…Sweet Ass Muthaf*cker) and since Drake channeled Sinatra at the 2010 MTV VMA's many speculators put two and two together and that's how we've all pretty much come to the conclusion Common is taking shots at Drake.

Common spoke on the phone about the diss track on the Tony Sculfield and the morning Riot radio show.

Says Common:

I made a song that’s definitely a Hip-Hop song; in hip-hop it’s like stepping in the ring. Rap is a contact sport so I talked about there’s cats that are soft and sweet. Drake felt offended and it was directed toward him so he said, “Man, say it to my face.” My thing is I’m going to keep it hip-hop and stay on that tip but if he falls in that category then so be it. I’m not going to hold my tongue like I say in the song.

I look at it like this, when Jay-Z made ‘DOA,’ I don’t think he specifically was like “I’m going to write this song about T-Pain” but T-Pains fits in that category so he might felt offended. At the end of the day, it’s all hip-hop.

Everybody knows diss tracks are all about friendly competition to get some kind of publicity for your new music. Drake is the hottest rapper in the game right now and if Common, who always speaks positivity in his music needs to go after the big dawg to get some attention on real hip hop, then so be it. maybe what Weezy should be teaching you over there at Young Money is how to not come across like a sensitive bitch on stage.
