It's no big secret that the hot mess that has become Single Ladies has been going through some changes lately. There was plenty of behind-the-scenes drama allegedly between Stacey Dash vs. producers and actress LisaRaye McCoy, the former who was fired from the show due to having a diva attitude. Stacey Dash went on the record to say it was her decision to leave due to some personal family matters, and LisaRaye had to let it be known that she was not the one who caused Stacey's fireation. Blah blah blah.
Well word on the street is that after many rumors of other big name stars in Black Hollywood would be taking Stacey's place on the hit VH1 night time soap, execs have finally settled on a replacement. According to Rodney Ho at AJC:
VH1’s Atlanta-based hit dramedy “Single Ladies” has hired “All My Children” alumnus Denise Vasi as a replacement for Stacey Dash, who abruptly left the show in August after just one season.
I know you're asking the same question I am...who? Well Vasi, who was a model before she took up acting has starred on shows such as “The Good Guy,” “The Order of the Serpentine,” “How To Make It In America” and “White Collar.” If you are an ABC soap fan you may know her best as Randi Hubbard on "All My Children."
According to VH1, the show will return to Atlanta to shoot season two in January and will air in the early summer. Vasi will not be playing a new Val on the series but will play Raquel, a close friend of Keisha (LisaRaye McCoy). Raquel is a savvy business woman from a prominent Southern family on a quest to discover passion, according to the press release.
How they will address Dash’s character Val’s departure is unknown at this stage since it was not addressed in the show last season. And much of season one revolved around Val’s dress shop, based fictionally in the Terminus building in Buckhead. Will they kill Val off? Will she have suddenly moved away after meeting the man of her dreams in Los Angeles or New York?
While Stacey Dash is great to look at, she is a horrible actress. All I know is they better get this show together or otherwise cancel it because even though I did enjoy the ridiculousness of Single Ladies, they seriously need to spice up the cheesy writing and bad acting.
