Actress Amber Heard, is calling out Hollywood stars for being chicken shit and staying in the closet. The star of the Johnny Depp film The Rum Diary, who is openly bisexual and has been seen on many red carpets with her then-girlfriend said in the December issue of Women's Health that “you can’t respect yourself if you’re afraid to be who you are.”
The actress also says that her conservative family knew from the very beginning that she was attracted to both men and women and came out officially at a GLAAD event last December.
“The risk was outweighed by the possibility of playing into this horribly detrimental lie that some in Hollywood perpetuate,” Heard says. “It requires bravery to do something no one else around you is doing,” she added.
This has always been a difficult issue to take on, since people seem to be stuck in the old Hollywood mentality of losing a career should you come out as gay. Homosexuality has become more and more accepted in society and you would think that people would be alot braver. I feel when you are of a certain status and you have played the game for so long, established closeted actors are too comfortable and paranoid to come out. The roles are good. The money's good. So why risk it? Hollywood is supposed to be a liberal town, yet people act like the ruler of all the Hollywood studios are members of Rick Santorum's family. Like Gandhi once said we have to be the change we want to see in the world, and learn that what happens on camera is strictly performance-based. Once the director yells "cut!" I should be allowed to live my life as I see fit and love who I want to love without judgement.
