TAYLOR LAUTNER TO PRODUCE AND STAR IN NEW FILM DIRECTED BY GUS VAN SANT
Remember all the hoopla that came out a few weeks ago when GQ Australia were throwing ignorant comments Taylor Lautner's way when they asked him is director GusVan Sant and screenwriter Dustin Lance Black (Milk, J. Edgar) came on to him when they were spotted having dinner in West Hollywood?
Well if anyone really knows the Hollywood scene, many know that if an actor is having a meal with a director and screenwriter, chances are they're having a business meeting over food. If they were going to fuck they have assistants to set that up.
Anyways, according to The Hollywood Reporter Lautner is real close to producing anf starring in an indie film to be directed by Van Sant (Milk), based on a article in The New Yorker. Read the deets below:
"Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Lautner is finalizing a deal to team with auteur director Gus Van Sant (Milk, Drugstore Cowboy) on a small-budget film based on a nonfiction article in The New Yorker magazine that Lautner has optioned. Details are still emerging about the project, but sources say an announcement is expected later this week revealing who is write the script for the Van Sant-helmed film. The aim is to shoot the film in the first quarter of next year."
The paper adds: "The new project would almost certainly take Lautner’s career in a new direction. He is said to be determined to work only with top directors and writers from now on as he strives to define himself as an actor."
I think it's only appropriate that Taylor focus on being taken seriously as an actor, since he has said in past interviews he wants to be the next Tom Cruise. While I could care less for his Twatlight co-stars Robert Pattinson and Kristin Stewart, I look at Taylor as having potential of becoming a global brand like Cruise, who was versatile with the roles he chose, like Born on the Fourth of July, Magnolia, Jerry Maguire, and action roles like the Mission: Impossible films and Minority Report. So if he's willing to take on the role pf producer and collaborate with some really good writers (like Dustin Lance Black, who I have a feeling will be working on the following project), I say less crap like Abduction and more films with substance.
