They often say when your career is on life support, and you go on Dancing With The Stars, good things happen to you. It's happened to quite a few celebrities such as Mario Lopez, Kirstie Alley and a few others. Now word on the street is that Ricki Lake is heading back to TV in another daytime talk show. The show, called what else, "The Ricki Lake Show" will premiere on FOX in September 2012. We haven't seen Ricki on daytime TV since she hung up her microphone in 2004. While her late 90's talk show was geared towards the college set, Ricki's new talk show will target the 25-54 audience.
The announcement explained, “Ricki is not an expert. She’s not a doctor, therapist or a super homemaker – she’s a working mom trying to figure life out, and inviting her audience along for the ride.” Paul Franklin, general sales manager for Twentieth Television, said “we are thrilled that Ricki will bring daily conversation and her relatable spirit to this impressive group of stations.”
I used to watch Ricki Lake all the time at 5 PM when I was a kid, and even got to go on the show a few times (to sit in the audience). It was the only show where I got to see drag queens and male strippers for the first time, and where else do you think I learned the term "unbeweavable" from? In a world full of Geraldo's, Sally Jesse's and Donaghue's, Ricki definitely spoke to me as a young gay man trying to figure out the world.
