HAPPY BIRTHDAY RANDY HARRISON
I want to take a moment to wish Randy Harrison, best known for his role as Justin Taylor on Queer As Folk a happy birthday today. He turns 34 years old (damn I feel old). When I was a young gay finally coming into my own 11 years ago when it debuted on Showtime, Queer As Folk was the show that broke all the rules on American television, and showed me as an actor, media personality and screenwriter that it is possible to tell our stories in an unapologetic way. QAF premiered on the same night I graduated from Barbizon (yes I went to the modeling school at Hotel Pennsylvania) and I rushed home after the festivities held at FIT to catch this show that was full of bitchy dialogue, explicit sex, drugs, and fantasy nights at Babylon. QAF was my generation's Dynasty and I was addicted.
I actually remember seeing him on the E train last winter when I was on my way home from film school, and I had to do a triple take to make sure I wasn't seeing things. He still had his blond hair and he had on a long coat, which gave a peek of his notorious bubble butt when he got off the train. I know Gale Harold who played Brian Kinney is currently on the new CW series The Secret Circle, but I had often wondered what happened to Randy after QAF was canceled five seasons later? I've been hearing he's been doing a lot of theater, including Equus (2005), Amadeus (2006), One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (2007), Mrs Warren's Profession (2007), Waiting for Godot (2008), Ghosts (2009) and Endgame (2010). I hope in the future we see Randy back on television, since there is a huge need for quality LGBT entertainment in the vein of groundbreaking landmarks like QAF, The L Word, Noah's Arc and The DL Chronicles (the latter which is returning for it's long-awaited second season).
