BRUCE WILLIS SIGNS ON FOR DIE HARD 5

It should come as no surprise that after the huge success of Live Free and Die Hard three years ago that there would be another Die Hard sequel on the horizon. The movie that made Bruce WIllis a huge action star 23 years ago, and gave us the moniker, Yippie-Ki-Yay Mother F*cker! is set to begin shooting January, 2012 and will be called A Good Day To Die Hard

As some one who is a die-hard (no pun intended) movie buff and fledgling screenwriter, I often frown upon the endless sequels Hollywood often concocts for a quick buck, but all of the Die Hard films so far have been pretty good. John mcClane was to me growing up what Jack Bower is to TV today - a no-nonsense good guy who will do whatever it takes to get the job done.

I'm hearing the plot surrounding the fifth sequel involves McClane traveling to Russia to bail his wayward son out of trouble once more. I remember hearing when they were doing Live Free or Die Hard that Justin Timberlake was rumored to play Willis' son, but I have no idea what happened with that (Mary Elizabeth Wnstead went on to play his daughter in the last film). Reports say the producers have four guys they are looking at to play Willis’ on-screen son. Check them out in the photo below...

(from l. to r.)

First choice is the very busy Liam Hemsworth. The 21-year-old Aussie actor is not only set to star in the highly-anticipated young adult franchise The Hunger Games, but he is currently shooting The Expendables 2 with Sylvester Stallone, which also stars Willis.
Next up is 31-year-old DJ Cotrona. He was last seen on ABC’s short-lived crime drama “Detroit 1-8-7“. Cotrona is currently shooting “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” which should help out his action movie cred. Fun fact, the actor was considered for the role of Ryan Atwood on the “The O.C.“, but lost out to actor Benjamin McKenzie (Southland).

Third on the list is Aaron Paul. The 32-year-old actor is best known for his Emmy Award-winning work on AMC’s “Breaking Bad“. Originally, his character was supposed to be killed off during the first season, but his chemistry with Bryan Cranston proved so great, the producers changed their mind. A few years ago, Paul appeared in another aging franchise. He had a small role in “Mission Impossible 3“.

Last and certainly not least is James Badge Dale. The 33-year-old’s previous acting credits include a role in the third season of “24,” the short-lived and critically adored A&E series Rubicon, and the HBO mini-series, “The Pacific“. His film roles include “The Departed” and the 1990 remake of “Lord of the Flies“.

I think all the picks are great, but if I were a casting director, I would choose Aaron Paul, who kind of resembles Willis and would be able to pull off both action and intensity. Or better yet, how about someone not even mentioned on the list - actor Ben Foster? He's an intense actor and I thought he was good in Pandorum (even though the movie itself wasn't), but he would be perfect as McClaine's son. Unless they are looking to spin off the series then that would be a different story.

A Good Day To Die Hard is scheduled for a Valentine’s Day 2013 release.
