While out promoting another one of his shitty films (this one being Tower Heist with tranny lover Eddie Murphy as the star), director Brett Ratner has come under fire after making a gay slur during one of his interviews. Well after GLAAD came after his ass for saying that "rehearsals are for fags" during a Tower Heist Q&A (as well as revealing he banged former Attack of the Show host and actress Olivia Munn before she was Asian - his words, not mine), he gave a half-assed apology on Howard Stern, saying, “I apologize for any offense my remarks caused. It was a dumb way of expressing myself. Everyone who knows me knows that I don’t have a prejudiced bone in my body. But as a storyteller I should have been much more thoughtful about the power of language and my choice of words.”
Apparently it wasn't enough for him to keep his job as producer of the Oscars, which will be hosted by Murphy, because AMPAS President Tom Sherak has given Ratner his walking papers. They'll say he resigned to save face, but if you ever follow people in media whenever they have their hands caught in the escandalo cookie jar, it's more like a fireation.
Says Sherak:
This morning, Brett Ratner submitted his resignation as a producer of the 84th annual Academy Awards to Academy President Tom Sherak. Ratner then issued an open letter to the entertainment industry in which he explained his decision.
"He did the right thing for the Academy and for himself," Sherak said. "Words have meaning, and they have consequences. Brett is a good person, but his comments were unacceptable. We all hope this will be an opportunity to raise awareness about the harm that is caused by reckless and insensitive remarks, regardless of the intent."
This is actually a blessing in disguise, since I feared brett would turn the Oscars into the MTV Movie Awards. All them Rush Hour movies are shit, he ruined X Men: The Last Stand, and Gabourey Sidibe does the worst Jamaican accent in Tower Heist since Madonna still tries to perfect her faux-British accent. Also am I the only one who has always gotten a gay vibe from brett? After all, he got his start working for Russell Simmons.
