ASHER ROTH SIGNS TO DEF JAM

Asher Roth, who has been M.I.A. for quite sometime has officially announced that he has signed a new record deal with Def Jam Records, and will release his sophomore album Is This Too Orange? in the spring. Roth is currently in the studio laying down tracks with Jim Jonsin, Pharrell, and a few others for the follow-up to his 2008 debut album Asleep in the Bread Aisle.
“Def Jam is a great place to call home,” said the 26-year-old rapper, who was previously signed to SRC/Universal Motown. “I’m excited to get back to the basics with good, honest music.”

Here is what Island Def Jam President and COO Steve Bartels had to say about signing Asher: “The Def Jam brand stands for quality, creativity, and authenticity,” he stated. “We believe Asher Roth delivers all this and more. He’s a great fit for us and we look forward to delivering Asher’s special brand of great hip-hop music as only Def Jam can.”

SRC Records CEO Steve Rifkind added: “Partnering up with Def Jam on Asher’s album is a great opportunity for all parties involved.”

It looks like a very busy year ahead for Asher Roth. He has a mixtape Seared Fois Gras with Quince and Cranberry and The Rawth EP, a free album with producer Nottz, Roth will also release Pabst & Jazz Sessions, a collaboration with The Cool Kids’ Chuck Inglish and production duo Blended Babies. The collection will be available December 20 on iTunes, with Asher’s proceeds from the album benefitting The Philadelphia Hunger Coalition.

I think anything is better than being signed to Universal/Motown, since they don't really push any of the artists on their label, such as Erykah Badu, India.Arie, Kelly Rowland, and a few others I can't think of at the moment. Asleep in the Bread Aisle was a pretty good record in my opinion and I look forward to what Asher will bring to his sophomore joint.
