MARILYN MANSON TALKS TO VOGUE ITALIA ABOUT NEW ALBUM BORN VILLAIN
Rocker Marilyn Manson, who released the video for his Shia LaBoeuf-directed buzz single Born Villain is in the latest issue of Vogue Italia and in the issue he opens up about the new album (also titled Born Villain), which will be released in early 2012.
“I made this album with the same spirit that I had 10 years ago when I still had the desire to succeed,” Manson said. “Then having had everything and lost everything, I’m back with the same energy of a time, cleaned up. With only what I’ve decided to keep: collections of movies, books, and art. The rest does not interest me.”
L.A. Weekly were the first to report on what the new album will sound like, since they were fortunate to attend a mini Born Villain listening party, revealed that the new album is “classic Manson“, with “dark, sinister vocals over throbbing rhythms and heavy, thrashing guitars.” They also implied that Manson hasn’t abandoned his trademark pop sensibilities, saying that one track they got to hear “has a super catchy chorus that could do the K-ROQ rounds.”
What I love about Manson is he is the master of taking rock, alternative, electronica, and industrial, throwing it in a blender and creating something cool without it coming across as pretentious and forced, something Lady Gaga has tried and failed miserably to do. Sure she has her young fans, but she doesn't have the respect of real music purists because she's a mediocre songwriter who sings generic dance songs disguised as avant garde. Can't wait to hear the new album.
