STUDIO 54 TO LIVE ANOTHER DAY ON SIRIUS XM RADIO

Here's some really awesome news I happened to catch on one of my favorite blogs Pop In Stereo. Starting Monday, Sirius XM Radio will launch a brand new dance music station called Sirius XM's Studio 54 Radio which will be overseen by none other than the legendary Jellybean Benitez. Now this is awesome news, because I wasn't even born when it was closed, but all the stories I have heard from surviving DJ's who lived to tell the tale has always made me wish I would have experienced all the debauchery.

What I am also hoping is that the DJ's who will be playing 70's and 80's disco will also divulge in whatever they can remember from the times they were at Studio 54 because I'm always up for hearing tales about New York City before it got whitewashed and Disneyfied by Mayors Rudy Guiliani and Michael Bloomberg.

Check out the official press sheet below...

The channel, SiriusXM’s Studio 54 Radio, will launch on Monday, August 15 at 5:00 pm ET on channel 15. The station will offer the best in classic club mixes and disco tunes, from the ’70s and ’80s, as well as classic mixes from dance icon John “Jellybean” Benitez’s personal collection. The channel will also feature mix shows from the top DJs of the era.
“We are thrilled to announce that we are ‘reopening’ the Studio 54 doors on radio,” said Scott Greenstein, President and Chief Content Officer, SiriusXM. “With the launch of Studio 54 Radio, we are excited to offer our listeners a chance to relive, or experience for the first time, the music and atmosphere from the truly iconic era. If you weren’t there, you didn’t hear it. But now you can — only on SiriusXM.”
Jellybean, who has produced and remixed for artists such as Madonna, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, and the Pointer Sisters, (and even did the theme song for The Ricki Lake Show) will not only share music from his collection but the legendary dance producer will also executive produce the channel.
Legendary Studio 54 doorman, Marc Benecke, and Myra Scheer, executive assistant to former Studio 54 co-owner Steve Rubell, will host weekly interview shows, The Marc and Myra Show, with Studio 54 insiders from the iconic era. Special guests will include Studio 54′s original head of security, original bartenders, waiters, busboys and well known club regulars and celebrities.
“Studio 54 was like a spectacular comet that flashed its brilliance for a short period of time and was gone,” said Marc Benecke. “Whether you were inside the club or outside the ropes, this show is for you, Marc and Myra will take you there and let you have one more night.”
“My first day working at Studio 54 I was on the phone talking to Andy Warhol,” said Myra Scheer. “My assignment was to invite Steve’s master call list. Now Marc and I are calling them to be on our show and inviting listeners to hear some fascinating stories as to why to this day there is nothing that compares to it.”
For those too young to know about Studio 54, it was a highly popular discotheque in the 1970s and early 1980s. It was an iconic gathering place for actors, musicians, artists and celebrities. Studio 54 was the brainchild of Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager.
I also hope that they can remake the 54 movie into a more gritty portrayal because I actually hated the Ryan Phillippe movie that came out a few years back. And I went to the movies to see it.
