ROSS MATTHEWS SIGNS DEAL FOR HIS OWN TALK SHOW
After years of pounding the pavement on a few red carpets, the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and as one of my favorite standout round table panelists on Chelsea Lately, Ross Matthews (aka Ross The Intern) has just signed a development deal with E! for his own talk show.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Matthews, 31, will develop the talk show with Chelsea Handler's production company Borderline Amazing.
"It really is the time and I feel like I'm ready now," Mathews tells the trade. "I know how to speak to the audience. I know how to speak to celebrities. And I know my point of view."
As stated before Ross got his start as an intern on The Tonight Show back in 2001 and on his last day he was asked to cover the Ocean's 11 premiere (I'm guessing Jay's people though putting the high-pitched Ross on a red carpet would make for a great comedy bit). The segment was such a hit NBC kept him around to cover more events for the network. Matthews still to this day covers segments for NBC.
"I've been earning my stripes for the past decade and really honing my craft as far as surrounding myself with people that inspire me, like Jay Leno and Chelsea Handler," Mathews says. "I've been so lucky that they provided my opportunity to develop a clear voice that the audience has responded to."
I'm really happy for Ross who I always thought would be perfect for his own talk show (besides myself, of course). I saw that opportunity in the making the moment he guest hosted Chelsea's show earlier this year and I said that if someone didn't scoop him up and give him his own show they'd be idiots. Being that there are no openly gay talk show hosts out there, I most certainly will be watching his show once it airs.
