Is there a mainstream music industry conspiracy to blacklist Lil Kim? It would seem that way, since I've notice a huge spike in Nicki Minaj's career while Lil Kim resorts to release mediocre mix tapes. The latest straw to break the dramatic camel's back comes after her 16 was removed from Monica's single Anything (To Find You).
The first official single from Monica's new album is steadily climbing up the charts, and once heard on the radio Kim's rap was removed. Monica's label J Records recently told Billboard that the reason behind the removal is due to contractual issues.
Monica immediately took to Twitter to express her disappointment in her label's slick move and has taken a personal interest in getting her friend back on the song.
“I am just finding out what has happened to my single and myself & Missy are beyond hurt that @LilKim was removed,” tweeted Monica. “She’s our friend, a legend & @LilKim will get the respect she deserves at all cost. The clearance was revoked & I’m fighting to get it reinstated by the Biggie Estate.”
Monica. who's single contains a sample from The Notorious B.I.G. classic Who Shot Ya says Kim's part was apparently not cleared with Biggie's mother Volleta Wallace (who we all know has a roller coaster relationship with Kim which stems back to when the Notorious movie was released).
“We respect all parties involved & were gonna do WHATEVER to keep the song as is because @lilKim the bizness on the record,” she added. “I am as thorough as they come and I LOVE @LilKim bottom line is Ms Wallace has the final say and she said No. If we put it out we get SUED.”
What I love about Monica besides the fact that she's an amazing singer is how loyal she stays to her friends in the business. She's not one to play games, and act flaky around folks when they get to a certain status. i just wish there were more people like her in the game. Also, I applaud Monica for going in on those fans who are saying negative shit about the recent single controversy. If you don't understand how sample clearances and how the industry works, people need not comment. If Kim doesn't make it on the single and Rick Ross gets to be throughout, I will be pissed off, but at least I will have Kim's forthcoming new single Looks Like Money to look forward to.
