CIARA JOINS OLD BOSS L.A. REID AT EPIC RECORDS

After leaving longtime label Jive after her follow-up albums failed to live up to the sheer goodness of her debut album Goodies, The Hollywood Reporter has just revealed that Ciara has linked up with her old boss L.A. Reid, who just took a nice cushy job over at Epic Records. There's also word that he's set to snag up Usher as well, who's career he had a hand in constructing almost 17 years ago. I wonder if P!nk is next, since he did discover her and her best work has always come under his running. There's also word that he's got eyes on bringing Mariah Carey back to Sony, and since her first husband Tommy Mottola is no longer running thangs over there, I don't see why Mimi wouldn't hook back up with L.A. and leave J Lo and Rihanna fighting for the hottest left overs at Island/Def Jam? Besides, her best album The Emancipation of Mimi's success all came from under L.A. Reid's watch and Mimi needs someone she can trust to have her back in this fickle music business that's all about dated buzz singles and one-hit wonders.

Speaking of Jennifer Lopez, there are rumors that she may be heading back to Epic now that L.A. Reid has left Island Def Jam. The only reason she left her former label to join a new one is because L.A. lent his Midas touch to her new album. now that he's gone, she may be in danger of not getting the support she deserves as a dance/pop artist at a label that's riding on Rihanna's back.

As for Ciara, I'm glad she's found a new home musically, but if there's one thing she needs to do is go the Aaliyah/Britney Spears route musically, because even though she doesn't have the strongest voice, she can dance circles around any bitch in the game. Futuristic dance is the direction she needs to go and I hope L.A. can get her career on the right track. How much y'all wanna bet Ciara would have killed it if Max Martin would have sent her I Wanna Go as a single? The choreo would have been crazy if Ciara was doing it. L.A. needs to get CiCi in the studio with some new producers, who are fresh and hungry and can bring something to the music game that's been missing for quite sometime. More on this story as it develops. In the meantime, you can catch L.A. as he spouts his words of wisdom on the U.S. edition of The X Factor this September on Fox.
