Beyonce's new album may be enjoying some OK success on the charts (it may also help that she doesn't have any real competition on the music charts to compete with - but all that may change when Kelly Rowland drops her new album next week), but the singer says she had her eye on changing the mind of her critics when she crafted her new 4lop album.
“I really wanted to make a great body of work and a great classic album, and I focused more on the music from beginning to end,” the singer said to Access Hollywood. “I really wanted to get the critical acclaim. I feel like the longer I do this—I’ve been doing it for 15 years now—No. 1s are amazing, but to see some of the comments that the Rolling Stones and The New York Times and all of these credible, amazing, really critical magazines and papers [are saying] has really made me my proudest.”
Beyonce also says her goal with this new album was never to mimic the same instant pop chart success she has in the past, but rather focus on producing timeless, quality music.
“Just getting the respect from my peers and reading the really tough, tough critics, them acknowledging my growth and my bravery ’cause that was really what I wanted to do is go against the grain and try to put chords and bridges and lyrics and music back on the radio.”
Beyonce also wants people to know that out of all the accomplishments, she feels her debut solo album Dangerously In Love is her classic, all-time favorite album.
“I think my first album was a classic album. The other two were great, but I didn’t focus on that,” she candidly stated. “I focused more on singles and this time I said, ‘Let me take it back to when people just listened from beginning to end.’”
The singer, who I recall saying she wanted to have children before the age of 30 also revealed to Access Hollywood that she would love to be a mother withing the next 10 years:
“Before I hit the age of 40, I’d love to have some children,” said the private singer. “I would love to direct and continue to learn videos and maybe by then [do] a short film, a documentary. I just hope that I’m happy and into my childrenand well adjusted and still making music, if that makes me happy at that time.”
Well honey, sorry to break it to you but you worrying so much about what your critics (who don't even buy CD's or download music) think only left you not only in a creative crutch, but pissed off a lot of your hardcore fans who were expecting a whole lot more sophistication in the music. Sure you vocals sound stronger than ever, but I personally feel you should have spent a lot more time on making the songs better. Critics are like assholes ( I should know since I am one) and music is suggestive. You're not going to please everybody, but if you can wake up every day and say to yourself I am proud of this record and I can't wait to sing this specific song for the eight millionth time, then more power to you. But being that Virgos are people pleasers, Beyonce has a long way to go to feel secure with herself.
