While Lady Gaga is getting some praise for her recent interview with Howard Stern this morning, but the controversy surrounding her recent wheelchair bit in Australia has received quite the criticism especially from singer Bette Midler. Gaga, who is no stranger to researching the art of fame before any performance she does was quick to remind folks that she originated the mermaid wheelchair bit three decades ago.
I’m not sure @ladygaga knows that I’ve performed my mermaid in a wheelchair for millions of people -- and many of them are still alive," The Divine Ms. M wrote. "Dear @ladygaga if you think a mermaid in a wheelchair seems familiar-it's because it is!You can see it on youtube 24/7-with ME performing it"
Midler, who neglected to mention that Kurt Kobain paid tribute to Midler by performing the same mermaid-wheelchair routine during a 1992 live performance with his band Nirvana, also tweeted, "I've been doing singing mermaid in a wheelchair since 1980-You can keep the meat dress and the firecracker tits - mermaid's mine."
There's also word that the disabled community may have been behind her getting egged as well. I couldn't have said it better myself, Bette.
