It seems the BBC bosses are a little uptight when it comes to a little same sex lovin'. A sex scene between bisexual hero Captain Jack Harkness and a hunky barman was cut from the broadcast out of fear of backlash from viewers. Huh? This show has been on for four seasons, and if people have no idea that Captain Jack occasionally enjoys flogging other bishops, then those idiots who protest shouldn't be watching in the first place.
A BBC spokesman told The Sun newspaper: 'The UK and US versions of Torchwood are slightly different. However, these differences do not change the story in any way and the strong storylines are first and foremost to the series.'
An insider revelaed the scene was axed due to its 'graphic nature' and not because it involved homosexuality.
A source added: 'It wasn't that it was a gay scene that worried people, but just the fact it was such an explicit sex scene, full stop. You can get away with scenes like that on American cable channels, but you can't on primetime BBC1.
'Even though the show airs after the watershed, it has a lot of young fans who would have been shocked at the graphic nature of the sex.'
These days with so many gays on TV, the younger generation who are more sexualized than ever would not have been shocked by this at all. It just sounds like a poor ass excuse to me. It pretty much sounds like you can be homosexual but damn if you show a lead character enjoying some hot random sex with a man. I'm sure if he were bedding a barmaid after 9 pm (which is the time it airs on BBC) this wouldn't even be a conversation. Here's hoping STARZ (the U.S. affiliate that airs Torchwood) will not follow suit. Hell, if they get away with the amount of sex in Spartacus a little same sex love from Torchwood would be like watching a Disney cartoon.
