VIDEO: SIR ARI GOLD Feat. SARAH DASH - SPARKLE
Sir Ari Gold, who just released his fourth album Between The Spirit And The Flesh on May 24, has unleashed his second music video from the album with Sarah Dash (from the legendary girl group Labelle) called Sparkle, which takes on the recent social commentary of bullying and how we use the hate we have within ourselves to destroy those around us. I've always been a fan of Ari Gold, since he had the balls back in 2001 to be the first openly gay pop singer to put out music of actual quality (without the backing of a major label), but I have to go on the record to say that BTSATF is his best and most cohesive album to date. You can hear the maturity in his voice and the lyrics, and listen to every song from beginning to end. Not only do you get his signature classic R&B/pop sound, but he pushes the boundaries with 80's dance (the very Dead Or Alive-esque Stay In This), house (Play My Fucking Record, which will have the pop divo's music getting played on plenty of turntables this summer).
Other favorites on the album include the sexy Over The Internet (about seeking love with a trick you've met online - I can so relate), the sexy synths of My Favorite Religion (which would give Lady Gaga's Born This Way a huge ass kick to the curb for it's cheesy pandering), the Brandy/Monica kisss-off for the gays If I Steal Your Boyfriend featuring Mila Jam and drag sensation Peppermint, New York Attitude, a love letter to the greatest city in the world that would rival another New York-loving singer - Madonna's NY homage, I Love New York. Of course let's not forget Sir Ari's rocktronic first single Make My Body Rock, and it's True Blood-meets Wall Street music video. I actually would have preferred more than nine full-length tracks from Ari (an Overture and Epilogue round it out to 11 tracks), but being that this is his best and most solid body of work to date, I'll take Sir Ari any way I can. So if you're looking for aome music from someone who is their own boss and will give you excellent music to dance to with a powerful message, you should definitely pick up Sir Ari's new album. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.
Head over to iTunes to download the entire album if that's how you like your music. I got mine in CD format (where you get a couple of photos and lyrics to all the songs), and I prefer good ol' fashioned physical copies over digital downloads, so if you want a physical copy, head over to his website, arigold.com. In the meantime, check out Sparkle, which was directed by Duane Cramer below...
