SKINS WILL NOT RETURN FOR A SECOND SEASON

MTV hyped up their Americanized version of the hit U.K. series Skins like it was the second coming of Jesus about to attend a Roman orgy, and now comes word that due to low ratings, the network has opted to cancel the controversial show. It also didn't help that the Parents Television Council beat the series to a bloody pulp with their constant complaining. Advertiser pulled out left and right, and quite frankly, the U.S. version didn't hold near a candle to the U.K. original. To me, MTV's version felt too self-conscious and tried to be way too ballsy for it's own good (with the forced controversy for the sake of ratings), which I think hurt the show in the end.

“Skins is a global television phenomenon that, unfortunately, didn’t connect with a US audience as much as we had hoped,” said MTV in a statement. “We admire the work that the series’ creator Bryan Elsley did in adapting the show for MTV, and appreciate the core audience that embraced it.”

Well at least MTV still has their other sexually-charged shows like Teen Wolf and The Hard Times Of R.J. Berger when they're not busy hyping up new seasons of Teen Mom, The Real World Challenges and umpteen reruns of Jersey Shore.
