MISSY ELLIOTT OPENS UP ABOUT BATTLE WITH AUTOIMMUNE DISEASE

While most of us hip hop fans have been hungry for a new album from Missy Elliott, the rapper revealed why she's been missing in action for quite sometime. Missy revealed to People magazine that she's been secretly battling Graves' disease since 2008. The autoimmune disease, which effects the thyroid kept her from doing some of the most simple things like writing and driving.

“I was (driving and) trying to put my foot on the brake, but my leg was jumping. I couldn’t keep the brake down and almost crashed… I couldn’t write because my nervous system was so bad – I couldn’t even use a pen.”

Missy also says that symptoms caused her to suffer hair loss and mood swings, and the only thing that managed to help was radiation therapy.

“I’m 30 pounds lighter because I’ve been exercising. My thyroid is functioning, so I haven’t had to take medication in about nine months. (But) you live with it for the rest of your life.”
I'm praying for you Missy and hope you can get well soon so we can get some new music from you.
